This project has been an experience, one that has provided me valuable skills for the future. The ability to develop and edit sites for me and potential clients can only benefit me in my profession. I stuck to my guns and I believe I produced a site thats easy to navigate and it clearly showcases my work for any potential client.
I took influence from various sites, in particular ‘themill’ design agency and ‘sohofixed’ sites. Both miles apart in there professions but beautiful and clear in there own way. The Mill a well known design agency used a clear white canvas with gentle slideshows of large imagery, a clear portal for there work. Soho Fixed is a bicycle manufacturer based in London and again they used a clear showcase of product shots and particularly nice tab design. I used clear slideshows of imagery throughout my site, combined with thumbnails for users to go back and view an item of work. My index.html immediately draws attention to my work with a page width slideshow of selected projects.
Initially I found it hard to motivate myself, finding it hard to gather work to show on my site. However after some editing and consideration I developed a hierarchy for work, displaying it in some form of importance and relevance. I didn’t particularly encounter many problems within this project and I found Adobe’s Muse software a god send, and there was only the odd moment when I needed to find out how to edit certain areas. With a few of us using this program it made it easier to develop our sites as a team and it was very much self initiated as no tuition was given on this software.
I actually enjoyed this project, finding it beneficial to develop my professional stature and collate my work, where it could provide me with employment. I will in time get my own server space for my site and my own domain name, as this is important for the maintenance of my site. Ive received good feedback for my site and I think its a good spring board for me as a young designer, its legible and easy to navigate with clear imagery, it will put me in good stead for the near future. I will continue to use Adobe Muse in future as I believe it will be the main development tool and provide me with another area I can apply my skills.
