Live Brief - A collaboration with a commercial Photographer.
Recently completed a live brief for photographer Jack Gill. He wanted to have some photos he taken made into a poster campaign on behalf of the NHS. He came to me to arrange the layouts of these posters, taking into consideration the type and the images. He wanted the Images to do the talk and the type to just support the photo. Fairly straight forward really.
We worked well together and we were on the same wave length with thoughts about the designs. He basically gave me freedom with design having confidence that I would produce clean layouts. There were minor adjustments with colour and placement of type, but the brief all in all took only a few days between other tasks.
Above are the final visuals for the brief.
D&AD Final
This is our final design for the little white lies cover. I believe we have a achieved a pretty clean finish that reflects parts of the film. The sepia/vivid lighting add to the sci-fi genre and we believe enhances the type. We admittedly struggled to fit the portrait into the template as the logo added difficulties to the layout. I think we managed to work with what we had well and at the time of the project it was all we could do.
D&AD TYPE
We needed to add the title of the film to the cover so we worked on type looking at forming it out of tape and also writing it. Niall had the idea of using a cut out and allowing light to form the structure of the type. This worked successfully producing a clear typeface.
D&AD development
Here are a few further idea for our cover design, one showing a little more context than the other. We were coming across problems with trying to fit the film tape portrait in to be honest. It was hard to not make it look tacky and untidy.
D&AD FINAL TAPE PORTRAIT
This is the final tape portrait that has been taken through photoshop and edited.
The stop frame video of the generation of the portrait, shot over a period of 3 days.
D&AD More Context
Niall had the idea of using a film strip as an overlay over the sketch. This worked well and it began to generate more context to the film. As it is surrounded by the recording of this extra terrestrial alien visitor.
D&AD Critique
This critique began to point us in the right direction. Neil told us to look further into the use of film and have more context to the actual film. We need to really look more into the film, memorable moments need to be reference and just generally tell more of a story alongside the image.
